24 january. President Islam Karimov left for St Petersburg fo the regular session of the Interstate council of heads of state of the Eurasian economic organization (EEO). 

During the visit of President Karimov to St Petersburg on October 6-7, 2005, it was agreed that Uzbekistan would join the EEO. President Karimov spoke with journalists at the Tashkent airport about this.


"The EEO and the Central Asian cooperation organization have similar goals and tasks," said President Karimov. "If we unite our potential and efforts, this will achieve additional results. The new structure allows us to save time and avoid duplication in decision making. It will save money and facilitate organizational questions, allowing more practical activity." 

20 march. Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Islam Karimov and Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a joint statement on results of negotiations. 

A number of bilateral documents were signed after the talks of official delegations of two countries, in which the presidents also participated. 

List of signed bilateral documents: 

– Agreement between the Ministry of agriculture and water resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan on cooperation in conducting measures to fight grasshoppers and other crop pests, and plant diseases; 

– Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on international automobile service; 

– Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on coordination in border regions of radio frequency assignments in radio frequency range 30.0-1000.0 MHz, used by civil-purpose radio services of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan; 

– Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on cooperation in the field of science and technology; 

– Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on cooperation in the field of protection of intellectual property. 

29 march. Official delegations of Uzbekistan and South Korea held extended negotiations in Seoul on Wednesday in the framework of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. 

The presidents of the two countries participated in the negotiations, which focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation. The sides noted that South Korea was a reliable economic partner of Uzbekistan in South-East Asia, and that the volume of mutual trade was increasing steadily. 

At the same time, it was acknowledged that the potential of the two countries was not being used to its full. Thus, Uzbekistan and South Korea have possibilities to raise bilateral relations to a higher level in the fields of oil and gas, textile, heavy and light industries, electronics and new technologies. 

During the talks, relations in the humanitarian sphere were also considered, including relations in the fields of science, education, healthcare, culture and tourism. 

26 april. The Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh visited Tashkent University of Information Technologies. 

Memorandum on opening the Center of Information Technologies with this university was reached between two countries in October, 2004. 

The project on creation of this center has been completed and according to the arrangement the center was named after Indian politician Jawaharlal Nehru. 

During the opening ceremony of the center Honorary guest noted, that Uzbekistan and India the same as and in other spheres possess potential for expansion of relations in the sphere of information technologies. 

Manmohan Singh has noted, that this project is directed to development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and India in sphere of a science and education, and it is the result of bilateral cooperation, and wished successes in the activity of the center. 

2 may. The airport and the streets of Islamabad are decorated with flags of two states,as well as posters in Uzbek and English languages. 

Islam Karimov lodged in " Siren " Hotel. Within two days this place will serve as a residence for Uzbek leader. 

12 May. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov paid working visit to Russia. 

Meeting of Presidents of two countries was held at Presidential residence “Bocharov ruchey” in Sochi. The sides discussed the issues on further development of bilateral relations, expansion of trade-economic cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. 

President Islam Karimov signed Law On ratification of Agreement on Allied relations between Uzbekistan and Russian Federation on 6 March 2006. During the following visit Vladimir Putin signed Law on ratification of this document. The agreement has come into force. 

During the negotiations Presidents pointed out that official ratification of the agreement is the main historical event. Both parties ratified the document, signed in November 2005, in the shortest period that testifies to a resolute spirit of Uzbekistan and Russia for wide development of mutual relations. 

During the meeting Islam Karimov emphasized, that all-round strengthening of cooperation in the region has a great value. 

14 June. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao in Shanghai on Wednesday. The Uzbek leader arrived here to participate in the summit of heads of states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which starts on 15 June. 

The two leaders discussed issues of Uzbek-Chinese relations, development of SCO as well as regional and international matters. 

Islam Karimov said Uzbekistan considered China a trusted friend and close partner, and highly valued the actions of the official Beijing to deepen cooperation and improve SCO activity. 

Hu Jintao said China believed Uzbekistan occupied a key place in Central Asia and played a strategic role in the regional and international geopolitics. 

28 june. President Islam Karimov received the following new ambassadors: Egyptian Ambassador Nodi Ibrohim Kaffofi, Algerian Ambassador Muhammad Berrah, Palestinain Ambassador Asad Munim al-Asad and Kazakhstan Ambassador Askar Mirzaahmetov. 

The President congratulated the new ambassadors and wished them success.
